Building on the popularity of the basketball and volleyball programs, Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Cruz County is offering an indoor soccer camp this summer to teach kids the basics of the sport. The program launched June 13 with about two dozen participants, and there is room for about five more.
During the nine-week program, participants practice drills and play mini-games. The program meets twice per week for 90 minutes each time at a cost of $65. Ages 7 and older are welcome and can sign up at the Front Desk of the Downtown Clubhouse.
“When we play a half-hour game at the end, we remind them of what they learned during drills, such as passing techniques,” said Luke Judson, senior programs specialist and a coach for the soccer camp. “We’re trying to create a way to prevent kids running around individually and really focus them on the team effort side of the sport.”
Luke said he expects there will be a pizza party fundraiser and drawing at the end of the summer session for a jersey.
